the only one of the glasto headliners i'd see is probably Kings of Leon, but i am pretty stunned they have got that slot though. anyway, i'm not fussed about the pyramid headliners, last year i went to the pyramid once to see seasick steve. they may as well call it the Radio 1 stage with the kind of tat they put on there.

still havn't decided if i'm gonna go yet though, i'm registering my photo and crap but i think i need to restrict how many festivals i go to, so i need to decide which i'm gonna pick!

I'm gonna be there, working away...so excited. Glasto is always amazing!

BRS there would be great...maybe the stage they play depends on how the album is received. But John Peel Stage would be good...better still, Tadpole Stage in Green Fields. So then everyone can have post-'Shoes chai :)

The headliners are official now:
http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/news.aspx?id=1905
Of the headliners, I am most looking forward to Jay-Z!! Even though he does piss me off with the whole "I'm retiring...no wait, I'm not, I'm back! Then I'm off again...no I'm not, I'm back AGAIN doing terrible guest spots on records" ... He has got some quality songs. And if you've heard/seen the unplugged gig he did, it'll probably be great, get some good guests on too!
The Verve would be good for nostalgia value BUT it clashes with Sunday night, which is traditionally rave-up in the dance village night.

Seasick Steve was wicked on Pyramid Stage last year...as was Liz Green getting attacked with smoke machine before him, heh.

BRS playing early in the John Peel tent, then on the same day the final slot in the Guardian Lounge, that would be perfect.

Im going to glasto, always do, makes sense since i only live 3 miles away, i think Laura and Steve should visit me after they play. A secret gig in my (mum's) lounge is clearly what eveyone wants.

I would have thought BRS would play most of the UK festivals this year, with the album out soon. Think im going to Leeds this year, although would'nt mind trying glasto.

Eavis seems desperate to bring in a younger audience to glasto this year, as they wernt well represented last year apparantly, hence why Jay-Z is one of the headliners. Can't see him going down too well really, but it's something different I suppose.

Just resurrected this topic to talk about Glasto, its really not doing well this year, for the first time in about 6-8 years it hasn’t sold out in the first day. Tickets went on sale Sunday, there are still around 40,000 tickets left apparently and Evis has been forced to re-open registration.

Personally I think it’s down to many things, for a start the headliners, the Verve aren't exactly a festival exclusive, while KoL are good they're just not headline material and Jay Z is very alien to most festival folk. Since last year Evis found a new topic to harp on about saying the festival needed younger people, while spouting bollocks is nothing new for him it seems he’s offended a few people this time, by alienating the 'veterans'/older fans and not actually doing anything to accommodate the younger fans (clashes with many GCSE and uni exams) to me it just looks like he was been manipulated by the NME, they write some bullshit article about the festival having to many oldies (basically it wasn’t Reading) and then a week later Evis starts his ‘mission’. The last three glastos have had shity weather but last year was just terrible, and more than likely was enough to put off the casual fans and first time attendees. Also people have been saying this for a while but it apears the festival bubble is finally busting, as usual download still hasn’t sold out, but V and glasto didn’t sell out on the first day, and i reckon the only reason R&L and TItP sold quickly was because of RATM, also a major reason festivals sell out is because touts buy out about 30-40% of the tickets, glasto is the only festival that has anti touting.

I wasn’t going this year because of one reason, practically none of my mates were going, last year we had a group of 20, in January this year when we started talking about it again everyone said they’d be happy to go again, but that 20 slowly dropped to about 6 people. Now I’m pretty tempted, both out of sympathy and the possibility of a less crowded site, if i can convince at least 4 of my mates to come i'll go. It'll be a big shame if it doesn't sell out though, its in my opinion the only genuine music festival with a huge selection of bands in diverse genres of music, not to mention many other non-music related things.

fuck knows why everyone is like 'HOLY SHIT IT HASNT SOLD OUT' - go look at all the european festivals which cream over any uk festivals' lineup - none of them sell out (if at all) for absolutely ages.

as for ticket sales - the weather over the last 4 years has put a lot of people off for definate. all the press releases eavis did last year about the age of the crowd etc - obviously pissed people off.

as for headliners - jay-z is pulling out 'supposedly'. cant believe so many people are getting worked up about him playing anyways, theres what 35 odd stages? also, how can 1 act cause so much offence because they cant join the other 70,000 gormless lemmings at the mainstage and watch some 'bland as hell' guitar based band like say the killers last year or the verve / kings of leon this year. god help it if a festival trys something different

99% sure im not going this year - because ill be seeing pearl jam in new york. otherwise id be back for sure - def the best uk fest by some distance

Well festivals in europe are a lot less popular (and less of a fad) than they are here in the UK which could be a reason why they dont sell out, its also the reason they can get all the best bands for a pittance of the price, its just very unexpected, supposedly the biggest festival in the UK to have such a drop in interest in one year.

I think everything you said about Jay Z is right, personally i dont like his music but thats no excuse when your going to a festival with 4 major stages and about 15-20 others. Also embracing different types of music is what a major part of glasto is about, the thing is a vast amount of people do go to glasto and only watch popular, easy-to-listen-to bands and hang around the main stage for the festival. Im not saying the festival should accommodate these peoples tastes but at the end of the day they are the ones buying the tickets. One of my mates this year decided not to go purely because Jay z was a headliner (hes an absolute moron and a complete sheep when it comes to music, last year he wouldn’t stop about how good the fratellis are and how AM's were sooo awful), that just shows some types of people who do go to glasto, and is most possibly one of the many reasons for s/low sales.

Personally i think all this talk about him pulling out is bollocks but we'll see.

Michael Eavis has said that it's utter crap, spread by the organisers of Wireless Festival. The organisers of Wireless happen to be Live Nation UK, the UK division of the company that appears to have recently bought a share of Jay Z (they pay him shitloads of money now in return for a percentage of his future earnings. That's how I understand it anyway).

Of course that may genuinely mean nothing at all.

Admittedly that figure is totally fictitious, but it still seems right. To back up my claim i checked out completed listing on ebay for Reading Weekend tickets. Tickets went on sale March 31st 18:45. The number of weekend ticket sold on ebay from April 1st 00:01 to April 3rd 23:59 were:

April 1st - 293
April 2nd - 334
April 3rd - 340
967

in the space of 3 days 967, or 1.2% of tickets were touted over Ebay. This was not counting touted day tickets, touted early entry passes, failed sales or any Leeds tickets. I was going to count the numbers up to today but it took long enough to count three days, so i'll do some estimations.

Tickets are continuously sold on Ebay right up until Reading Weekend. The volume of tickets doesnt drop that much since then, just the price. Its 130 days from the 4th April till 17th August, after that its unlikely tickets will be sold via touting as Reading is 4 days later. From the fist 3 days, the average % per day was 0.4%, lets put that down to first week ticket rush and say and average of 0.3%-0.2% sold per day for the first 65 days and 0.15%-0.1% of tickets sold per day for the other 65 days.

That means i estimate that about 30%-20% of Reading tickets will be touted on Ebay.
