Songs galore!

Postby foxymusic on Fri Dec 28, 2007 1:18 pm

Morning all!
Thought i could be of some use to you all in your quest for knowledge, although i have to say you have done remarkably well in the past 3/4 days considering the distinct lack of anything on the web.
I was the drummer of Lady Muck for those who don't know, and just for you i've put together a page containing all the songs i have, of which the recordings were listenable to and a few photos from a band rehearsal in my living room long ago.
I did have loads more photos of various gigs and photoshoots from back in the day but they are on a cd somewhere and, of course, i don't know where it is as i've just moved house and still living out of boxes. When it does eventually show up i'll gladly put some more up on the page, but i hope what i've put up does fulfil your appetites.
The web address is http://www.positivemusicalsolutions.co.uk/ladymuck

or if that doesn't work try http://www.positivemusicalsolutions.co.uk/ladymuck/ladymuck.htm

Enjoy.

That's great! Thanks very much indeed! I wish I found this before I signed up to the forum... 'Blood Fanny' would be a much better username than Schitzophonic.

How about a special rank instead?

Or if you really want, I can probably change your username...

No problem at all, i'm afraid i can't enlighten you much on the bands history as i was fairly unattentive towards that. Laura-Mary will be the oracle in that respect as she was in from beginning to end. I'm glad shes doing so well

What about the songs? Are certain ones from certain CDs? There is some artwork for a few of them, and a title which comes up in Windows Media Player.

The first 3, Look Back Twice, Brand New and Hearts Not In It were from a demo cd which i think was titled 'Sugar If Desired', the rest were just odd recordings from various stages of the bands career

You will, one day. I'll get bored and delete it. Or drunk, and delete it. Or just forget why you had it in the first place, and delete it.

Hi all,

Been trying to get in touch with Laura Norris, not sure if anyone has an e-mail address? The only one I have is @ladymuck.net, which seems to have been dead for quite a few years now... I also come bearing mp3s, as I still have an old CD with Look Back Twice, Brand New and Heart's Not In It on it :)

I'm not sure if the email address for Foxymusic shows for you (he's Simon Banks, ex-member) but it was active when I chatted to him about Lady Muck recently. If it's not showing then PM me and I'll forward it to you - he may be able to help :)

The Story So Far...

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away...Two girls who met via the education system discovered the need to create music and make a stand for female equality. Ish. So they got some blokes called Stuart and Phiiil to make a band with them called Violet Stain. They did Hole, Tilt, L7 and Llama Farmers covers with a handful of their own creations. I think they may have alternated bloke people in the band to accomodate the sometime inclusion of Ollie and Colin...Either way, they did actually play a gig at the Black Cherry Fair with Misterhall and I think Delirium, and thus began their journey on the path of superstardom [oh while we're on the subject, you HAVE to listen to Superstar by Sonic Youth, I can't get it out of my head]. This was around the summer period of 1999.

By April 2000 the band hadn't made much progress and had had several new members although the core focus, Hannah and Laura-Mary, remained true to their faith. Matt Harfield was enlisted on bass but he never got to play...

One fateful day, Hannah, Laura-Mary and myself were all sitting in the changing rooms discussing the meaning of life, the universe and everything. It became apparent that we were meant to be together so I took over Matt's mantle. I didn't really know them that well at the time but we were all totally definite that this was something we wanted to put our lives into. Feel the love, man...SO then we had a week to prepare for the Salesian Battle of the Bands in which we actually came 4th out of 8 so that was a pretty fair deal. Colin was our drummer at that time, he was going out with Laura just prior to that. We changed drummers within a week or so though to play our first 'real' gig together with Bad Habit and 37 Below at a venue whose name I've actually forgotten! Oh no! It was a Riverside Arts Centre and possibly in Sunbury but I'll have to check my data there, hahaha...

The songs tended to be covers or ska/punkXriotgrrl takes on the rage men often induce in us. Unfortunately we weren't that good at ska seeing as it actually only featured in one of our songs, but it was fun stuff while it lasted! We played several prominent gigs in this time, including the Heatham Festival 2000 and a couple of gigs at the Peel, so we got a fair bit of coverage. We also got a track recorded for the Heatham Compilation Cd 'Article 11', called 'Song for Tim'. This illustrates our idea of ska/punk quite adequately, tee hee...

Then we got annoyed and disillusioned by things like not being able to play [in my case], losing touch with people and reality at college, having to actually work for our qualifications, not being able to tune up and the existence of mathematics, so we temporarily disbanded. Well Laura-Mary tried to get us to. But really we just changed our name to Lady Muck and cut out the punk and ska influences. We just scrapped all our old songs and wrote some new ones in time for a gig at the Peel. However since then Hannah left which made things a bit awkward. Ha, not really, we're just really disorganised so if there's a scapegoat...hehe! The aim is that over the next few months we'll actually develop an hour's set and make a proper recording of a mix of studio and live tracks to spread the Good News. Which brings us up to date!

I remeber this guy called Mark who drummed in Violet Stain!! He was awesome ;)
