Right, I've had an idea for the tour. Blatently nicked from the Subways, but anyway. The idea is an A3 sheet folded into quarters, so when it's handed out by street teamers, it's A5. As can be seen in the picture below, one side will show the front, back and inner of the fanzine, with the other side being an A3 picture of the band (I didn't think there was much point in me showing it as the stuff here is just placeholders).

Image

Obviously it'll look a tad more professional than something knocked up in half an hour on Photoshop, but has anyone got any suggestions? Other things they want to see (NO nudity!), etc before I suggest it to the band/label. I'm particularly after something for the back, ideally two numbered columns of stuff, kinda like a football program. I thought the mix tape wasn't a bad idea, as that way the pair can educate us on music.

That's odd, I was thinking of mixtapes last night. Not for this explicit use. I was thinking we should revive the old mix CD thread. But instead of sending them round and them getting held up my someone disappearing completely, put them up on the internet or something.

That would be good. I'll join in this time. I might even do a themed one.

I think this looks quite interesting, i'd love to get involved.
The design is going to have to be excellent, as i'm sure the label will insist on, and they'd have to be pretty comfortable with it to fork out for it really.
Nice idea though. Keep us posted.

AGAIN, the text is just generic placeholders, there to illustrate what it would look like - not all of it's true! (thank God I didn't fill the mixtapes with The Eagles Greatest Hits really)

2000 POUNDS, plz.

I think James and his affair with Steve should totally be mentioned as well.

hey.
so i like this idea alot! but not a fanzine about us but a blood red shoes fanzine. That could be at shows with blogs in it from us and mix cd with bands we like and bands we think people should check out. It could have interviews by us with other bands. like we could ask some questions to bands and put the answers in there.
I dunno just an idea? maybe we could have two. the one you do and the one we do? i used to have a fanzine that i did for a few years, it was quite fun.
I could put blood red shoes artwork in there and stuff.
basicly i am thinking about doing an exhibition of my artwork too. And so i am trying to do more creative things and get ideas (not that we are doing enough stuff!! ha ha)
but yeah what do ya think?

Lm x

Oooh I like that idea...this one was intended to be taken over by the label and use their network to design/print/distribute to street teamers for handing out at gigs. A fan designed/created one would make people feel prouder of it, but then again it's a lot of work, especially if it all goes tits up (much like the mix CD did).

Mind you, it doesn't take long to create one (see above) and maybe an eight page thing might work...Hmmm got me thinking now :D

Kind of like the Los Campesinos! one? 'Romance Is Boring'? Which is...somewhere in this mountain of paper on my desk, I think

OOOOH.

Found it :)

It's got the band doing articles on things they like (for example, Harriet talks about the book 'Housekeeping', Ellen does something about The Oscars) and then it's got other people contributing things too (Becky from YSP! WSD! has given this little picture in, Gruff Rhys from Super Furry's has this thing where he's found stuff out about five things. It's more interesting than that makes it sound). It's quite nice, 24 pages of A5 stuff.

We could always combine the two ideas, have a sort of 'band' half and then a 'fan' half. A bandzine and a fanzine, or something like that. I don't know, I'm just procrastinating, to be honest. And wittering on.

Am I the only person who notices the rather important first three letters of the word "fanzine"?
