Well, it's mostly because the live set is good, but never varied. And because Billy had a go at a few of us. And because we've been waiting for three years for the album and it's been built up so much.

Actually simplyrob may have a point...

Aye I know why they get slagged, and I know this board was a sort of spin-off from The Subways forum (although correct me if I'm wrong, and of course, I do believe BRS are infintely superior) but I was simply giving my two cents on what they were like at T. They were better than I was expecting them to be, I thoroughly enjoyed them and were one of the bands of the weekend (along with Rage, LC! and Battles)

wow. these last 20 pages tell quite a story when read all together. all i'll say to all those who arn't subways 'spin-offs' is please don't be put off the band from stuff that's been said on here. There are people here who are bitter about things, some of them for good reason, some with none. Neither them or me has an unbiased opinion, but I do think you should check out 'All or Nothing', and if you like it, buy it.

They are also fantastic live performers, you'll struggle to see a better rock show in this country. The reason they are at the stage they can play Brixton Academy is because of that live show which got them noticed by me 5 years ago and the rest of the world soon after. I can honestly say that every one of the 31 times I've seen the subways, they've gotten at least a little bit better every time. Ok, so they're not very good at stage banter, and they'd be better by minimising it like they used to, but that's up to them and it will work for the majority of the audience because they'll only be seeing them for the first or maybe second time. But if you're going to judge a live show on banter then perhaps you need to find another way to spend your evenings.

I'm not much of a person to go up and make conversation with bands etc. I'm too shy most of the time. Others here are different and have had or do have some sort of first-name-terms relationship with band members. I've only ever liked the subways for the music and their performances, and on that basis i've not yet been given a reason to go off them. It maybe that individual members don't take kindly to having their hard work probed at by people who seem to just be taking a pop for the sake of it, even if that isn't true, but you also have to respect the stress and pressure there is on bands now when they're competing for the public's attention. The words that were said and later posted here in this thread hit a raw nerve in a few people. I just think it's a shame they havn't realised how meaningless those words all were and let it go. I have.

this should have all been said months ago. better late than never i suppose.

I'd forgotten that song! Hopefully it'll crop up as a b-side at some point

Char told me they didn't record it. They used the main melody for another tracks :(

Next single, out Bank Holiday Monday, is I Won't Let You Down - easily the best song on the album.

(Warners obviously listened to us at the album previewing session)

Are you sure we're talking about the same company here?!

Did you meet someone called... Natalie (I think) there? She's the person who I've given up attempting to deal with. She's the "digital marketing manager" or something of Warners, despite seeming to have no interest in marketing them online...

As much as they clearly made the right decision on this one, i doubt our opinion had much to do with it. Like they said, they were undecided between Shake Shake and IWLYD, and what they've actually done is both. (Shake Shake is out in Germany instead)

The video for IWLYD is about. It looks very like the one for YBMD, I think.

I just saw the video, I've barely listened to the Subways. Dunno why, I heard Oh Yeah when it came out and quite liked it. Never really got round to buying any. But I really liked I Won't Let You Down. The video I thought was a bit more like I Wish I Was Someone Better with all the lighting showing individual band members, and the camera wandering through the performance. I think, I haven't seen that video in a while.

EDIT: I've just read back the whole 20 pages of thread here. Upon reading the comments Billy left, I frankly am appalled. Yes, music is a personal medium, possibly the most personal medium to express yourself, but still, you're not going to impress everyone with your material, and you're gonna have to learn to take some constructive criticism at times. It's fair enough the set list stays mostly similar, but the banter as well? That's Metallica syndrome right there. I'm still probably going to get the album (albeit in Friend-Borrowing format) and I'm gonna keep an open mind to it. I liked I Won't Let You Down and I'm hoping the rest of the album stands up to that.

On other notes: Rob, you were justified in your review, I thought it was a decent review and when Billy called you a pram and said it was unintelligent, he was just grasping at straws because he probably knew you had a point. It was well written in my opinion in the sense it was balanced. Much more than some of mine... (See review of Kerrang tour on my myspace. Specifically the Madina Lake section.)

James: Lol. Lol's all round for reading your view on this thread. All I can say about your various experiences with this thread. Winning the acoustic competition made me laugh.

In response to the Nicest Band Members You've Met part- Klaxons were lovely. Um... Doherty's mum (not in a band, but still) was lovely. Joe Lean was quite nice (and very drunk), Hadouken! were lovely chaps when I met them whilst high in Bournemouth gardens. I think that's all I've met.

That is all.

x

I wouldnt call it the best song on the album but fair enough, i enjoy obsession, turnaround, kalifornia, strawberry blonde and this is the club more as other tracks that could have become singles.

You are wrong. Very wrong.

Also, This Is The Club is a bonus track, so couldn't be released as a single from the album, really. Agree with you about Obsession though, in fact the run from IWLYD through Obsession and into Turnaround is the high point of the album.

Well it that wasn't bad for a slower song, maybe a tad cheesy.
You are right about this is the club although I do really like that track.

Also yeah very true the IWLYD into Turnaround into Obsession is a great little part of the album, just three great tracks back to back in the right order, it works well.

I'll put this here because it doesn't warrant its own thread. Some observations:

How drunk is Charlotte?!?
How punchably smug does billy look?
Why does Steven look like he's been coerced into the picture?
