the album is awesome, it sounds fantastic on cd, very different to how i thought it would come across after hearing most of the new tracks live.

Buying a ticket for Brixton Academy from seetickets will cost £20.50... And that's with only £2 postage!
(They've started calling it postage fee again now, which is nice). _________________ I've finally seen the distance between us,

It's £19.13 from ticketweb. But when was the last time you paid for a ticket to a subways gig, jack?

HMV here has sold out of the original and ltd ed copies, and apparently HMV in Cardiff is out of the Ltd Ed ones too. Looks like it's going quite well for them. _________________

November 2006, I believe.
However that's not the point I was making. It was more about how the booking/postage fees add up. And, in my mind, when you pay £20 for a gig it's normally someone pretty big. But that's not been the case in reality for a good few years, to be honest.
It's more of a "it's not like it was in my day" grumble. _________________ I've finally seen the distance between us,

I'm not a gig promoter, but the ticket price (£15) comes with the territory. Gig prices in general seem to be going up in London and I could come up with two reasons for that.
One is that gigs are going through a hayday, and so promoters know they can rake the prices up for bands with any kind of interest and people will pay it. Two is that far too many venues are now owned by one company, AMG, who wholly owned by Live Nation, who are wholly owned by Clear Channel. There is simply no other venue in London of a big enough size that isn't owned by them. Somehow this has gone unchecked by the monopolies people, but I'm pretty sure that this means AMG can fix the venue fees as high as they like, which forces the band/promoter to have the ticket priced as high as it is.
In other words, there is nothing that can be done. If you want to be seeing any bands that arn't 'big' in the near future, then you'll have to get over it. As for the other £5 you're paying to a ticket agent, if you're so bothered by it there is a way round it. Make a trip to either the lovely people at Stargreen in oxford street and then it's £17.50, or better still go to the venue box office and get it for the price that was intended. Although for some reason if you want a ticket for gigs at brixton the only place that you can go is Islington academy.

A fantastic review of the album in the Mail on Sunday.
'Turnaround in particular sounds like the spirit of Nevermind being channelled through the Teletubbies.'
I nearly wet myself when I read that. _________________ You let that guy in your house

It hasn't been easy for The Subways recently. After a rollercoaster start to their career, which saw them playing Glastonbury unsigned in 2004 and supporting Oasis at the Gallaghers' invitation, vocalist Billy Lunn developed nodules on his vocal cords. Extensive surgery ensued and it was during this medically imposed hiatus that All Or Nothing ( Infectious/ Warner Bros, £11.99 inc p& p, out now, 01634 832 789) ** took shape.
Unfortunately, The Subways do not appear to have benefited from this period of reflection.
Turnaround in particular sounds like the spirit of Nevermind being channelled through the Teletubbies. The dearth of inspiration on display is perhaps best exemplified by the number of recycled song titles, from Girls And Boys (Blur) and Alright (Supergrass) to Kalifornia (Fatboy Slim) and All Or Nothing Itself (The Small Faces). No one minds a dash of pop plagiarism, but when most of your album feels second-hand, it's time for a rethink. |

I know they get slagged a fair bit on here, but I thought The Subways were bloody amazing at T in the Park. Billy was doing his best to climb everything that he could, and the crowd were well up for it _________________ it's you!
